Happy Birthday Benedict Cumberbatch!
His name is more ridiculously British than ten Basil Rathbones. He’s Benedict Cumberbatch, and today is his 35th birthday.
Best known for his role as the titular Sherlock in the kickass BBC show written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, Benedict also earns his geek cred thanks to his role as Steven Hawking in a TV movie in 2004, as well as the voices of Smaug and the Necromancer in the upcoming Hobbit films. He’s also a lifelong Who fan. Quoth the wiki:
Cumberbatch, a fan of long-running British science fiction show Doctor Who, suggested in a July 2010 interview that he would be interested in appearing as a main or recurring character on the show, run by Sherlock producer and personal friend Steven Moffat. In 2008 he had discussed with David Tennant taking over the part of The Doctor but had decided not to try for the role.
He could have been the Doctor!!
Happy birthday to an incredible actor. We look forward to what you come up with next, you handsome devil.
