Video Games: Harmless Fun or TOOL FOR TRAINING RAPISTS??
Hey gang, this is a snippet of a guest post I did over at One Cleric Short.
So there’s this article on FoxNews, stating boldly and without proof that the rise in sexual violence canbe attributed to video games. To quote psychologist and book author Carol Lieberman, “The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games.” Fox added “sexual,” not me.
But here’s the kicker. The game that Fox is ranting about, BulletStorm, doesn’t seem to have any sexual content. Bulletstorm has achievements with pervy names that would amuse only 12 year-olds (or our inner 12-year-olds).
The in-game awards system, called Skill Shots, ties the ugly, graphic violence into explicit sex acts: “topless” means cutting a player in half, while a “gang bang” means killing multiple enemies.
I repeat, you don’t see or engage in a gang bang. The word “gang bang” appears on screen when you kill multiple enemies.
