Black Geek History Month: Neil deGrasse Tyson

February 1, 2011

We kick off Black Geek History month with one of my favorite astrophysicists of any color: Neil deGrasse Tyson.

He’s the host of NOVA ScienceNOW,  the Frederick P. Rose director of the Hayden Planetarium, the recipient of twelve honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the author of a ton of books, a frequent guest on both the Daily Show, the Colbert Report, Jeopardy, Rachel Maddow, and once on the Big Bang Theory, AAAND in 2000 he was voted People‘s “Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive.”

Now, if there is any blemish on his sexy sexy resume, it’s that he was one of those guys who wanted to downgrade Pluto. But we forgive him. Logically, Pluto isn’t a real planet by the proper definition. We just got mad because we wanted our very energetic mother to serve us those nine pizzas. So don’t take it personally, Neil.

Thanks for all your awesome enthusiasm, brilliance, and knowledge about space and sharing it with the rest of us.

Who should we profile next time? Comment below!
