Bat-Casting. Maybe. Who knows.
Much has been said about the role of women in Christopher Nolan movies. That is, killing off love interests is a common theme. Rachel died in the previous Bat-film, so it is only natural that a new love interest should be introduced in the next, The Dark Knight Rises. Reports are saying that there are two female roles up for grabs: a villain and a love interest.
The villain is rumored to be femme fatale Talia al Ghul, the daughter of the baddie from Batman Begins, which I would be hella interested to see.
The shortlist of possible stars in the female roles are Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara, and Charlotte Riley. All of whom are (usually) brunettes, just like Talia.
Other sources say that the love interest will be reporter Vicki Vale, but this is the same source that says Eva Green and Naomi Watts have been cast in the roles, which isn’t true. Also: Vicki Vale? I don’t see a plucky reporter fitting into the gritty world Nolan has created. I predict a new character entirely for the love interest.
It’s good to see that there will be more than one woman in the cast, but I bet you anything both of them will be vying for Batman’s romantic attention. Sigh. The real question is: which one is going to die?
As for other Bat-casting news, Tom Hardy has been cast as the villain. Speculation points to Hugo Strange as the bad guy, but nothing is confirmed.
