Happy Birthday Butch Hartman!
Another geek birthday, this time it’s an animation geek! Feminine Miss Geek wishes a very happy birthday to Butch Hartman.
Butch has been in the animation business since his first gig with Don Bluth as an animator on An American Tail. He began to work as a writer and director with Hanna-Barbara when Cartoon Network began airing original cartoons Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo and Cow and Chicken. Butch next moved on to a project of his own, one that became a huge success for Nickelodeon: The Fairly OddParents. He’s also the man behind Danny Phantom and TUFF Puppy.
He’s not just a creative guy bringing quality cartoons to young kids. His charitable work is pretty amazing, too. He and his wife founded Hartman House in 2005. Hartman House is a non-profit organization that travels to developing nations and some of the most poverty stricken areas in the United States. Hartman House has built two homes for families in Guatemala, fed nearly 7,200 US families Thanksgiving meals, and is raising funds to build a new school in Africa.
Too many cartoons today are dumbed down, trying too hard to be educational, lamely repackaged old franchises, or just aimed at selling toys. Butch, you are one of the few still making cartoons that are just fun. Thanks for that, and Happy Birthday!
