Behold, the new Torchwood Cast!
Casting information for the new Torchwood series continues to trickle out all over the interwebs, and I’m sure there will be more to come. But we’ve got a big name added to the show, and I just had to share.
First of all, both John Barrowman and Eve Myles will return to the new series as Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen, respectively. I’m eager to find out what will bring Jack from his self exodus. Maybe the formation of a new Torchwood stateside? But who shall be joining the new team, I wonder aloud, fully prepared to answer my own inquiry?
Arlene Tur as Vera Juarez
She’s best known for her role on Crash. She’ll be playing Dr. Vera Juarez, a surgeon. And that’s about all the information I have on the character. Though she is described as “caught up in the Torchwood team’s mission,” so she might be the new Gwen. That is, the audience surrogate.
There was once an “Ester Katusi” listed in the casting call, and I’m wondering if they didn’t just change the name to suit the actress. If so, she seems like a Toshiko Sato clone.
Mekhi Phifer as Rex Matheson
ER alum Meki Phifer is the new Torchwood’s third lead. Phifer’s character is described as “a CIA agent, a fast-tracked high-flyer with a lethal sense of humor who starts to feel his mortality when his life is put in danger.”
Innnteresting. He and Jack should get along juuust fine. Just fine indeed.
Then again, this is the American version, so random boy-on-boy makeouts might not happen as often as we’d like. But also sounds a wee bit like Owen, who I never cared for.
Bill Pullman as Oswald Jones
Here is the big casting news, my friends. Never not awesome Bill Pullman of Spaceballs and Independence Day fame will be playing the third new regular, Oswald Jones.
His role is hands down the juiciest. Jones is “a convicted murderer and pedophile. But he’s no thug – this man is dangerously clever. Oswald escapes his sentence on a technicality, and finds himself becoming a media celebrity.” Cannot wait to see Pullman in this role.
So that’s the latest Torchwood news, kiddies! Look for it on Starz in summer of 2011.
