Happy Birthday J. Michael Straczynski!

July 17, 2010

Guess who’s birthday it is! That’s right, J. Michael Straczynski! Way to read the title of the article.

While J. Michael is best known for creating the TV series Babylon 5, he’s also written for  He-Man and She-Ra.

As if that didn’t give him enough geek cred, he’s also written for both Marvel and DC, one of which (Amazing Spider-Man) won him an Eisner in 2002. He also happened to be the man behind my favorite Spider-Man comic of all time: When Aunt May finally catches on and confronts Peter about Spider-Man. Incredible, incredible writing (and art by John Romita Jr.)

He’s also been attached to write the film adaptations of World War Z, Silver Surfer, and the remake of Forbidden Planet.

Happy Birthday J-Man! Here’s to many more productive years of continued awesomeness!

He wrote an article back in the early 80s for Twilight Zone magazine titled “The Chutzpah Connection”. That’s been a key inspiration for me ever since I read it. That was when I was maybe 14 or 15 years old. I am indebted to him. I don’t have many heroes. However, he’s one of them.
