Kickstart This: “The Women of Geekdom” 2013 Calendar
Whenever we hear about geek girl pin-ups, we’ll admit, we get a little skeptical. ‘Oh boy,’ we say to ourselves. ‘More objectification of women aimed at the stereotypical lonely male nerd. Everybody loses.’ So why are we talking about a geek girl calendar? Because these particular women are awesome, that’s why.
Incredibly talented women of all types are dressing up as their favorite geeky characters for the Women of Geekdom calendar. Podcasters, writers, gamers, cosplayers and artists, the calendar has a pretty diverse set of ladies.
…each participant would dress up as their favorite character from various fictions: Movies, TV, Comics, Novels, Video Games and RPGS. This calendar will not only try to showcase a diverse section of fandoms but also show the diverse types of women that love these shows, books and games. This will be a professionally printed, high quality full color calendar featuring these lovely ladies as they show off their geek pride.
Nary a controller licker to be found among them. The calendar looks like it will showcase women who are nerdy, beautiful, and sexy without being objectified. What’s more, project leader Shaun Rosado is open to the idea of a geek boy calendar next year if this takes off. I politely request a Zevran.
There’s only a few days left to fund the project! Head on over to Kickstarter now!

You sure there won’t be controller licking? I mean, the last girl on that page there is a porn star…
I promise you there is no controller licking. Satine has not been a porn star for a few years and is totally focused on her artwork. She doesn’t reject her past, it’s just that – the past.
Ahhhhhhhh, I didn’t know she was out of that biz. I just… You know… Remembered her body of work from years ago.
Totally get it. But no she is a full time artist now and has done a TON of awesome geeky stuff to more than seperate herself from that former work. If you’re in the LA area – go check out her D&D games at Meltdown Comics, they’re amazing!
I think one of these is already out, a local retro gaming store in Seattle called Pink Gorilla launched a calendar very similar to this. Check out their Facebook. All of their models are local girls who are huge fans of retro gaming and Pink Gorilla didn’t need a 18K to launch their beautiful calendar. http://www.facebook.com/PinkGorillaGames
