From PETA’s website:
“All animals have the same parts—have a heart, go vegetarian.” That is the message of PETA’s ad starring Traci Bingham, the curvaceous vegetarian actor, known to TV viewers from Baywatch, Comedy Central’s Strip Mall, and variety of other shows on BET and MTV. The sexy ad encourages people to view animals as something other than walking entrées.
It encourages people to view animals as something to screw.
Ugh.
Put yourself in an objectifying man’s shoes, that’s pretty much how he would dissect a woman. So I guess the ad works, it draws the attention away from the animals. Brilliant, Peta.
(Doesn’t create much sympathy for a dismembered woman though.)
Nice post – not only does this ad objectify women, but its completely inaccurate! I would challenge PETA to find a fish, poultry or insect with a “chuck”. Kudos to PETA for continuing to make completely inane and emotionally driven ads.
I don’t know about PETA, to be honest with you. Their hearts are probably in the right place, but they can be so idiotic with some of their campaigns sometimes.
I see the “vegetarians make better lovers” campaign as being one of those. As if, somehow, a woman’s worth is based on how well she does in bed.
At the NOW conference a few weeks ago, we had a PETA member who insisted that women’s rights and animal rights are one of the same. IT IS NOT!
I just saw this and remembered this post.
AND now I get what PFM is talking about.
